I've heard and read a lot about politicians and businessmen being "arrested," but how many of the arrested have actually been put on trial, been found guilty, and are currently serving prison sentences? Arrests without punishment mean nothing!  :/

I've noticed that every day brings more corruption news but there seems to be no real light at the end of this tunnel.

My concerns are being reflected in my conversations with my Brasilian friends at a party we gave recently. They are becoming numb to the corruption investigations. Some are worried that the damage these investigations are causing will not be survivable.

Basically the people are beginning to accept the "devil you know" argument.

There is some merit to this. A clean sweep of government is required but the system itself is cancer ridden. No one who could fix this has the will.

Hope this helps

You're right - all of this is numbing and exhausting.  :(

But I hope you're wrong about one thing:  there has to be someone out there who is willing to fix this mess. There must be someone out there who loves Brazil and isn't ready to give up on his country. Nearly every Brazilian that I personally know has said that he or she would move to another country if given the opportunity. With so many people ready to abandon ship the first chance they get, is it any wonder that the ship is sinking?

Busy Boys Club! Lol, now there involving another country. Busy Little Guys, there everywhere.

and the band played on through the night./ lol

Al, Just a small, small thing. The Brasilian government is still attached to Petrobras like a leech. These changes are still "lipstick on a pig."

Personally, I would not put my money into Petrobras as long as I knew that the same corruption that existed in the past could rear it's ugly head as soon as things got good again.

I suspect that any investments will come at a high price to Petrobras and that price will be passed on to the consumer. That may not necessarily translate to better service however as the corrupt will look for other means to feed their endless greed.

I know it's an election year. I actually SEE more police on the street, garbage is being picked up, and fresh paint is being applied.

More lipstick until the vote is in.

Well looks like the paychecks will be on time, talvez. Just greasing the skids for the new players? Waiting on the pilfering to begin.

Did some checking on this deal. It seems a good sale. The buyer will see a profit in a reasonable time frame and Petrobras will realize a much needed cash infusion.

I am still waiting for the other shoe. i believe that if the rest of the sales go this well, the parasites will take advantage of the lower scrutiny to once again feast.

Vigilance is required.

No say it ain't so. I also read that some heads of state were not attending for the uncertainty of who's really in charge, I also read that Temer was to speak in the earlier part of the ceremony yet for the fear of being jeered the program was changed I think it was kinda Cowardly for right is right and wrong is right or left ah who knows for the phat lady.👄 has not sung yet. 6 of 1, half dozen of the other. Can we say Coin To$$./ ?

In his defense, Temer did all he could not to be a bummer of the opening ceremonies. He cut his speech very short, sharply abbreviated his time with foreign representatives and changed his agenda to keep his schedule more secret. He even invited Dilma to the show after she complained to the media.

Gotta feel bad for him. After working so hard to position himself as president during the Olympics, and he can't enjoy it.

Water, water everywhere......you know the rest.

This Car either needs a new paint job or a compounded Wax job. Everyone knows you wash a car from the top down or do they. This will be years in the news.

Turn out the lights, the party has just begun, that's it nobody leaves until they fess up/lmbo :sleep

The only thing Lavajato has slowed down is corruption.Petrobras was able to close a sale that seems to pass the test for good deals.

I strongly doubt the validity of the numbers being thrown around. The majority of jobs lost were in the public sector. Construction numbers may have seen a spike once work on the Olympic venues stopped but that's to be expected.

I hope the Brasilian people continue to support this effort. It's future depends on it.

Yep, the numbers are always skewed when it comes to the unemployed, and I will wait to see on the corruption for it will never stop. I hope the people don't take it in the shorts anymore for its a wake up call. Yes the Petrobras situation is a mess yet I hope they don't sell it all off for that will be a downfall of the country. Once the Oil rights are gone it's a economic nightmare.

Payback for upholding free speach and corruption investigations.

Interim President Michel Temer asked his allies in Congress to temporarily suspend voting on bills that would readjust salaries for public servants and wants to bar a salary increase for Ministers of the Federal Supreme Court.

Well the vote is in, someone's moving, so this topic should go past 2018 with a few pardons and nonsense as I look at it, it's business as usual. I am wondering what twist and turn the new administration will give this, for now I see all new cars, ultimate Teflon finish never needs wax, just a rinse and dry and drive that beauty till the wheels fall off and it will never require a tune up or oil change and take ride to the Future/smh.

The Palace has a new Occupant, the real is holding in the 3.20 to3.30 range to the usd, the Paralympics has its issues, the banks are on strike, the pension fund managers are in a tight spot and the band played on. What a Whirlwind if I forgot anything let me know. For I can only dream for "Something has to Give" and yes it is a Rant for if not it would be a Rave!

Focus!/ I am wondering will this end in my lifetime. Jeez, maybe a tune up will help, oh I forgot the Newer cars do not require any maintenance maybe and Oil change and New tires./ lol

I am not a betting man. Just saying

I'm happy to see Cunha go. I hope he gets sent to prison. If even the mightiest and craftiest of them gets thrown behind bars, it'll send a clear message to all the Brazilian politicians. Then maybe - just maybe - the politicians will think twice before they steal from their country.

What a crew, I agree that if you take down the right pole or block the house will fall. All I can say is its not going to be pretty maybe it will self implode there's a dust storm ahead and look out for tumble weeds, this person has proven his self to be a liar so if he a  tells all will anyone believe him. I think with that many votes against one person, it brings to mind of keeping ones enemies close. Looking forward to the fall out as it maybe a nuke for this will be the shot heard throughout Brasil. I wonder how everything is working and is that grin still on the face?/!

Al, Hi.

We went home for  a vacation so no checking in.  I see that they are going to break up Lavajato in smaller investigations. Get me up to speed here. Will Moro head EACH investigation? Will someone be appointed "Special Procecutor"? or is this a way to dilute the success?

Back home the news was all about TRUMP! I leave the USA alone for a few years and look what happens ;)
