Lava jato and PT

Wonder if Dilma is stupid enough to offer Lula a cabinet post so he can avoid jail - that will signal the end for both of them

http://www.forbes.com/sites/kenrapoza/2 … a545a160a9

Only reason i can think of is that Lula has something to pressure Dilma with but it would surely mean the end of both PT and herself - her last hope for any kind of legacy would be to let the lava jato investigation to continue without political interference but her changing of the minister of justice last week and now this - who knows, maybe she is getting afraid herself.

A very good expression but in this case hardly relevant regardless if Lula is a friend or an enemy - it will mean both their downfall due to the flagrant act of nepotism

Certainly will be the end for both of them. The STF already has precedent that even a Ministerial post would not protect Lula from arrest and being tried in the lower courts. They have already held that if one resigns from government to have a case bumped back down to lower courts, in order to avoid justice the politician's priviledge didn't attach. Lula's situation is parallel and exactly the same, but in the opposite direction. He cannot assume a Ministry with the sole purpose of evading justice.

Also, since he has already been formally charged Dilma commits the crime of Obstruction of Justice should she nominate Lula for any government posting. That surely would be cause for impeachment. Once impeached she loses her political rights and is also subject to being tried in the justice system just as any other citizen.

In Politics there are no permanent friends or foes, only permanent interests

If Lula is appointed to a minister post it would mean that Dilma's government is openly trying to obstruct the countrys legal system - that really gives the expression "banana republic" new meaning.

Even Dilma must know that any democracy has (at least) three branches of government and if she does this openly she would never be taken seriously again by anyone - including other democracies, UN, IMF, etc.

Wish i had Dilma's email address so i could send her this link : (made for kids just for clarity)

Or maybe this (wiser persons than her government has thought this through some time ago)

yes she don't it "muito inteligente  :joking:

Well we see how this is going!/ lol

Surreal, what a History lesson.

Now i am truly giving up any hope for this to end well - Dilma's government will continue to slide into more and more caos until it finally selfimplodes

Latest twist now is that the head of the central bank will be replaced because Lula (Now the real head of the government) will start spending money - that means either more government loans or printing money - both solutions has been tried many times before and it never ends well.

My tip is a Venezula-type collapse sooner or later or maybe the military finally gets tired of the caos and steps in

Cabo, agreed it gets crazier by the day for it seems like there hell bent to commit suicide. Your points are well taken and justified for I look on in disbelief. For I cannot criticize only look on in horror. As Venezuela is crazy. Just chiming in on the ridiculous. The political sideshow in the USA is just as crazy.

don't be silly, you wont print money, or borrow it, they will tax the hell out of the people

I've completely given up on Brazil now. They're so determined to hold on to that cookie jar they've been robbing for all these years that they'll do anything to keep the robbery going.

Obviously, Dilma doesn't give a shit about the Constitution, she has just thrown it in the garbage can by making Lula a minister. It's all but sealed her fate for impeachment and essentially made Lula de facto President.

I would advise anyone against coming here permanently and certainly agains investing in this country.

Hard to say one way or the other, but it certainly will not help their chances one little bit!

great article concerning the Brazilian crisis by Glenn Greenwald, who lives in Rio.
he says this crisis is very similar to the coup in 1964 by the military.  the right-wing is looking to get something they can not get via elections.

https://theintercept.com/2016/03/18/bra … democracy/

I read the article, and while it has some good points, the corruption of the Dilma/Lula team managed to do what the other parties never did...sucked the national oil company's bank account dry.  Petrobras has done more good, funding projects that help the poor, than any other oil company on earth.   Read the article in Forbes.  It is the size of the corruption that has all my friends in Brazil, rich and poor, upset with the current government.  The article in The Intercept acknowledges that PT is corrupt, but then tries to make it seem that all politicians have the same level of corruption.  If anger with Dilma is something from the white,  right wing, how it is that she enjoys a 6% or less popularity level?  It is not that simple!

most of what's going on, is the making of the left and not the right, the left has been in power a long time

The next Brasilian President. Eduardo Paes or Marina Silva in 2018 ?
