Immigration is complicated in Malaysia. A rule of thumb figure is RM5k per month to qualify for an employment pass (work permit with option to bring dependents). But to be honest, that level of salary would be quite hard to live off for a couple, and impossible if there are school age children who would have to attend international or private schools as there are no free facilities in state schools for foreign students.
