Hi all,

Newbie on the Australia forum? Don't know how to start?

This thread is for you ;)

We invite you to introduce yourself on this topic, to share with us your expat story if you are already living in the country, or to tell us more on your expat projects in Australia if you are planning to move there.

It will enable us to help you better but above all to wish you a warm welcome.

Welcome on board!

Hi all,

I am a Graphic designer by profession. My husband and I have applied for family immigration to Perth, Australia on visa 176. We have 2 boys aged 4 and 2.5. Our medicals and police reports were submitted on 3rd February, 2014 and we're waiting for our visa now. Fingers crossed!  :) We hope to be there before the end of this year.

Now we're researching and preparing our move with lots of questions and concerns on our minds  :/  Hopefully the experienced lot on this forum will be able to help us out :)

Looking forward to making some friends here

Hi all!

I am a 26 year old male from South Africa that is about to embark on the visa application process. Feedback from registered migration companies have confirmed that I qualify to apply for a state sponsored skilled visa (190). I am very excited about the move and would like some recommendations on tried and tested registered migration companies which could give me the best possible assistance with the visa application process at a competitive rate. I want to make sure I use the best and not get scammed or frauded. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I'm a member of the volunteer crew on the restored  nineteenth century square-rigged James Craig, berthed in Darling Harbour next to the Maritime Museum.  Anyone interested in maritime doings (or who wants to make some boaty friends) could contact the Sydney Heritage Fleet through the website www.shf.org.au and ask to join a Fleet Discovery Day.  It's free, and includes a tour of the James Craig, then a trip by boat to the heritage shipyard at Rozelle.  There are all sorts of fascinating volunteer jobs available on the restored vessels, and expats of many nationalities with an interest in things maritime are part of the Fleet, it's a very friendly organisation!

Good day, I am still in SA and has visited my sister a year ago in Sydney.  I have been there for almost 6 weeks, and since they have moved to Australia 5 yrs ago, I have done my research work with agents and what I must do to be able to qualify.  I am now 49.  I have been in the Financial Accounting area for at least now 20 years.  My current position is Financial Accountant, without any studies, I have worked myself up to this level over the years.  I am 110% sure after my visit, that I want to move to Australia, if possible Sydney.  My one hope to get there will be only if a company from Australia interview me over Skype, and sponsor me to work there so that I can prove myself and my abilities and knowledge I can implement there in the workplace.

I hope that I will be heard here and given a change.

Thank you

Jannette Kaufmann

I am from the Ethiopia, my name is Kuma. I am living in Ethiopia now but  here in Ethiopia the condition is very difficult for advancing education career because of poorness. I think you have some information about Ethiopian economy and life standards including education opportunities; mostly for masters degree & above. So I want to move to Australia and get the chance of advancing my education career and contribute my own responsibilities for all.

I hope that I will be heard here and given a chance.

Thank you

Kuma Bera

Hi all,

Hi there!
We are a family of 4, my husband and I took a leap of faith and left Singapore to settle in Western Sydney 1.5 years ago taking with us our 2 children age 5 and 7 then. It was a tedious and stressful move, we must have googled hundreds of business to buy, houses to live in and finally settled in Penrith, NSW.

The business that we bought was located in Katoomba and we relocated it down to Penrith, where there is more vibrant community such as schools and infrastructure, we felt.

The leaving was tough...selling furniture ( so that we could fit everything in a 22 foot container ), car, personal items, club membership, closing bank accounts, terminating school, kids' extra curricular activities, transferring employment of our helper ( maid ) and saying goodbye. In the midst of all that, we had to coordinate getting into Australia. We divided and conquered tasks.

Fortunately, we were invited to stay with my aunt comfortably in the Blue Mountains before we were able to get the keys to the house. Once, we had the keys, we moved with literally with just clothes and a few essentials so that we can get on with our lives! Then, we decided to renovate parts of the house and that was done

Now, we are all settled in and just going about our business.
Anyone in Glenmore Park here ?

Cheers,
Maria

Hi every one..
Dreams of going and living in Australia is almost for every1.
anyways hope to get ours soon  :sosad:

God bless y'all.

hi there been move h to australia for one year follow my husband i am from jakarta indonesia

I was brought up on the Darling Downs (Qld) and later lived in Toowoomba and Brisbane, before leaving "to see the world" in 1963 aged 23. After a few years on the road and working in several "offshore" tax havens, my wife and I settled in Cayman in the Caribbean in 1978. Our son was brought up here, but has a UK passport and now lives in Norway near his children. I have two brothers - and their children and grandchildren - living in Oz, but I haven't been back since 1995, and it's unlikely that I'll visit again. However, I have fond memories of my childhood in the bush, and have reminisced on my blog about that - as well as about my backpacking in Europe and the Middle East long ago.

I've let my Australian passport lapse, but my wife and son have kept theirs up (as well as their UK passports). Maybe one day... who knows? My son's kids would probably be allowed to live and work there, when they're old enough, and after x number of years might be allowed to claim Oz citizenship. I'm not sure about that, though; does anybody know?

Greetings fellow expats :)

We're a Slovenian couple currently living in Malta and after months of brainstorming we've made the decision, to move to Australia. We're still in the beginners mode (have to do the IELTS, apply for a visa etc.).

But, after reading a few posts from Stumpy (please, don't take it personally) about moving to Oz, that people are getting laid off and that the economy is slowly regressing, I'm worried that we wouldn't succeed in our dream, living a better life. We're both in the IT field (he's the brainiac for programming, me as a graphic designer) and by checking out the SOL he's the only one who can get lucky - for now.

So realistically, are we dreaming too big?? :/

Thanks in advance for your comments,
female half of the BUD duo, Urša

Why not give it a try?
Australia still offers opportunities to anyone who is prepared to get out and about and look for work (I believe).

Unknown ahead looking for different life experiences and to know different people. .cheers

Hi everybody,
My name is Ijaz Ahmed,I am from Pakistan. I am 50+ with very talented children by the grace of God. I am a professional myself with extraordinary communications skills and target oriented marketer. My son is an Electrical and Electronic  Engineer from Cardiff university UK and my daughter is a professional medical doctor. aggregate family is a hard hitting professional team, playing on an uneven ground, draining the potential.

This facet of my family strength compelled me to think of relocating to an area, where we could exploit our potential and i feel Australia is a land of such opportunity with fine quality of people and landscape.

I am novice and know nothing and request someone helping me.

Love for everyone.

Well i' am Ivan from Chile, i spent 2 years in Melbourne studying a Diploma: during that time i tried to move forward to get sponsored or any other chance to stay in the country, because i simply liked it a lot more than my own country...the problem is that it is not absolutely how people use to say...i would say that is quite complicated to get sponsored for exemple: Australia is not anymore the country that use to receive open arms people coming from abroad, there's a lot of restrictions, and due to this you could find a lot of unscrupulous people willing to promise you everything if u accept less money and work as a slave for them....i know aussue authorities are trying to fight them but, most of the time, it is quite impossible to do it....there's a lot of indians sneaking around the rules, a lot of asians exploting their own people....etc...so, anyone who is telling you (even this web site) it's easy to move to Australia, is simply not telling the truth!
