Should i have bank balance

First of all, it is the Canadian government who 'gives' you a visa, not your friend. He can only invite you to the country or take financial responsibility for you, but even that doesn't guarantee you will get the visa.

You should have a steady bank balance no matter where you are, but especially in Canada because the cost of living is extremely high.

If you're worried about bank balances perhaps you should re-think coming to Canada altogether, especially if you are thinking of doing so without having a job to go to. It's not easy for foreigners to find work in Canada anymore, unless they are highly skilled workers.
