Dual citizenship for me and Visa for spouse?

Hello everyone,
First post here..
I am from the US and have dual-citizenship with Italy .
My husband and I would like to retire to France within the
next year. Does my husband have to apply for a long term Visa
to permanently reside in France or can he entire as my spouse freely because I am a EU citizen?

He can move with you but he needs a visa. Here's an embassy link that explains the situation (assuming he is an American citizen and doesn't have EU/EEA citizenship)

Thanks so much for your response and the link! Yes, my husband is American and so far, does not have EU citizenship (but may apply for dual citizenship with Italy in the future.)
