Worth moving to Bangalore? (Given what I am looking for......)

Hello Everyone,

BIG DECISION....

I am considering moving to Bangalore for 6 months from January next year and wanted opinions/advice from anyone and everyone as to your thoughts.

THE SITUATION:
- I love western comforts so naturally my research on the net leads me to fall in love with some of the accommodation in Whitefield, but my concern is this is too far from the night life, clubs and bars, is this so? Is there a recommended location closer with just as much comfort?

- I am a youngish (mid-20s) English guy (Indian ethnicity), so enjoy going out socialising and of course meeting/dating women, is this possible in Bangalore? Wouldn't want to step on any toes or worse so, come out there and find it is not for me.

- Finally, if I know not a person out there, is it easy to get out and socialise, any clubs to join or anything like that?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated (& apologies if any questions sound silly, just an excited potential sort-term relocater :-)

Thank you for reading and in advance for answering.

Kind regards,
Dharam Raja

Hello Dharam Raja.

Hi,

Try Domluru, it is a good locality situated in the one of the prime centres in the Bangalore city. It is a motley little locality with a scenic view around.
There are some good nightclubs and discotheques in the city, it's easy to get around the city if you got your own motorcycle or car. Always convenient if you find some company and someone wants to hitch a ride!

Bangalore has a cosmopolitan culture, people from all across the world and India, come there for work or stay. Lots of nationalities descend on the city. Just don't know though if you can pick some female company off the nightclub scene, should not be much of a problem if you strike a cord with someone there.

For the extroverts who are into sports, Bangalore is a dry city with not much to speak about, except perhaps cricket and a few other games. Not really much of a sporting culture there!

There are lots of neat restaurants there every 3-4 kms in the city.

All in all, a comfy city to live in!

Hi Nash1984,

Firstly thank you for replying :-)

Ok do you mean Domlur not 'Domluru'  -  Is this the best (most modern/poshest) place to live in Bangalore City? How is compared to the properties in Whitefield?

Is it possible just to get taxis/rikshas to get around the City or would I need to get a car?

Thanks Nash1984.

Best regards,
Dharam Raja

Hi,

It is Domlur/ Domluru(as called by the locals). Locals call Bangalore as Bengaluru.
It is an uptown locality with good connectivity to the rest of the city and the airport. You can get autorickshaws/ cabs from Domluru although a car will be the best way to get around the city. The traffic gets clogged during peakhours, it is good to have your own vehicle to get around the city.

Close to Domluru, you find Indira Nagar which is a posh locality. You can rent out a fully furnished 3 BHK appartment or an entire floor in a bungalow if you shell out 50000-60000 INR a month.

The city shuts down at 9 PM - 9.30 PM. I would advise you to have a car if you are considering getting out at night to hit the club scene.

I found the city rather insipid to my taste but it's due to the lack of sporting facilities there.

For booze monsters and party freaks, the city has innumerous nightclubs and pubs to pick from.

That said, the nightclubs close around 12 AM or maybe an hour more when the organizers manage to keep the places open.

I see so definitely better to be in Indira Nagar or Domluru then Whitefield if you like to go out?
I have been looking on 99acres and Sulekha and none of the properties have pictures so difficult to tell if it is just as modern as whitefield in terms of living and build.

Hmm I'll have to get a car too - That could be expensive - Guessing you can't get Ricksha after 9:30pm then? or12am when the clubs close.

Lack of sporting facilities, doesn't every property listing say 'amenities like tennis court and gymnasium' hahaha

Thanks,
Dharam Raja

Ps - You couldn't live in Whitefield and drive to bars etc?

Hi,

I am a professional sportsman, I am a pentathlete, I felt really stifled when in Bangalore as the city is not really known for its sporting scene.
Locals are crazy about cricket, I find it a silly game played by 22 characters in flannels. Well so much for that! All that these locals can talk about is cricket, the other Olympic sports hardly get a lookin in that city.
Modern amenities like tennis courts and gyms are not that difficult to find within a gated community. For hobbyists, these work fine.
I usually hit the town early on the weekends, did some shopping, then went to a local bar/pub to down a few drinks. I shook a leg sometimes on the dancefloor, checked out a few pretty faces(read chicks), exchanged some digits. That's the story!
Whitefield is a bit far from the good bars/restos in the city,I usually hung out with some Canadian expats/colleagues on the weekends, they were not quite the drinking types! More like me, outgoing and into sports.

There are some trekking/hiking spots around Bangalore. There are interest groups where you can join activity groups.
