my partner is close to getting a job in Tanzania, and I would like to know if anyone knows of the visa regulations regarding partners/spouses. Would one need to be married in order to get a visa (I will not be working?

You mean to say you are not married. I'm not sure about this.
But If you are married than Dependent family members (Wife or husband & children included in work permit)
