SoCal Couple in their mid-60s want to spend next summer there. Advice?

We live in the Palm Springs desert area and want to leave, so we are starting to plan now. We have done three months in Paris before and loved it although we did feel a bit ripped off by our apartment (VRBO). So, we were wondering if there was a better way to rent for the summer in the city or a near by area -- quiet, good view (although a beach nearby is not necessary), allows a small dog, walk-able to market, prefarably no car needed -- for under US$5K a month. A stand up "shower Americain" as they say in France, would be mandatory, as would comfortable furniture and at least 1,200 square feet of space, two bedrooms preferably, as well as TV, AC and WIFI. Any ways to do this besides the usual internet search aggregators, which really don't seem to offer any great deals, and are more focused on weekly visitors. Are we asking for too much in that price range for a three-month rental, when owners can get more by the week or month? Other places to consider near by? Sitges? Valencia? Thanks in advance for any advice. Cheers (or whatever they say in Catalonia) Nick (Oh, should I brush up on my Spanish or does everyone speak Catalan there?)
