Processing EP While Applicant is in Malaysia

Hi everyone. I’m looking for some information on the processing requirements for a Category II Employment Pass. I have received an employment offer from a Malaysian company and they are currently in the company registration phase of the process.

My question is whether the next stage of the process (expatriate application) can be completed while the nominated expat (me) is in Malaysia. I am currently in the country on a tourist visa, having been doing visa runs for the past few months in order to stay with my Malaysian boyfriend while I looked for employment.

From what I’ve read online, it seems that the applicant must be out of the country for processing to proceed. However, the company sponsoring me (who are working with a reputable immigration consultancy) have assured me that this is not the case. Can anyone confirm or deny? I’d like to make plans to leave the country if I will need to do so.
