Moving to cyprus

hi my partner has been offered a job in cyprus starting  march so excited but have never been there so i have no idea where to start
we are looking at paphos but there are so many areas to choose from i have a son who will 2 years old so ideally i want to live in  a area that has things to do  near shops and nightlife from looking on online coral bay looks good but it seems like a tourist hotspot we will have cars so if it means a 5/10 minute drive to a town  that would be ok and is it just coral bay that is near the beach any information will be appreciated thanks

coral bay is touristy  - but it is active most of the year and right now its very quiet - but very active in summer but its not a ghost town in winter

we live on Peyia (Pegeia) just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Coral bay but close enough to still be able to enjoy coral bay when  we want to

there are nice beaches here not just Coral bay, Corallia, Potima St Georges and there ar other spots to within a short drive too.

Paphos is a fab area and there are lots of vilages Peyia obvioulsy  Kissonerga, Chlorakas, Tala, Emba Tremithousa, Tomb of the Kings Kathikas Stroumpi Polemi Tsada Mesogi Timi Geroskipou Kouklia  - and loads more all have their charms and pitfalls too pluses and minuses - but all are just a short drive to a beach

i would suggest you rent first for 6-12months before buying here and get your bearings seek out the locations and explore the ups and downs of the locations for your needs wants and requirements.... and much depsnds on work children family lifr shops services transport whether you want a mix of expats and locals or solely locals or solely expats - all options have their pluses and minuses too - language usually isnt an issue un less you go much further inland - - but it can be great fun learning and mixing.

there is a lot to consider when moving here and dont worry about getting it right first time not many do  its all part of the journey enjoy  - feel free to ask questons here or by PM either way am used to it  lol

hi thanks for the information i guess the main thing for us is finding the right area i would need a nursery for my son and would like to be near shops and parks  i like idea off being away from the hustle and bustle  but a short drive so i can be somewhere busy
i don't being in a mix of expats and locals  we will be renting can i ask about internet speed as my partner works from home thanks

Internet is expensive here  -  but we have 20mbps which is very very stable from Cyta  at about€45 per month - we have been with them for over three years now and they are very good  - there are of course higher speeds  have a look here
https://www.cyta.com.cy/internet-home-products/en

there are other suppliers Like Fusion, Primetel, Cytel, Netcom, Bluenet, CityCell and others with their own variations of cabled and sat dish internet services

hi so after some researching we have decided to live in peyia  we will be renting and want a villa with a pool we've looked online and the only reasonable estate agent we can find is called paphos direct  can you recommend any other estate agents that do long term renting thanks

best advise  - search the facebook pages for rentals in peyia or paphos

Sunseakers are OK  - i can vouch for them as ive used before

good luck-Peyia is a good choice i live there as well LoL - just be very careful with your choice of location in Peyia  and be aware there is a serious barking dogs issue here and certain areas are prone to burglary - but with a little thought and a good look around the area you choose you can avoid the black spots

hi thanks for all the information can i just ask is there any areas to avoid in peyia and i will be looking for work is there a website where jobs get advertised thanks hope you have a lovely christmas

Personally i d stay clear of the white church area  - as it seems particularly prone to burglary mainly because there are a lot of holiday homes there - similarly Coral bay areas. - also be aware there is lower and upper peyia - choosing the upper peyia areas you will definitely need a car.......

alos try

Cyprus Living, Cyprus Mail & Paphos Post, free online newspapers

work wise much depends on your location and your skill sets-  Peyia borders the primarily tourist area of Coral Bay and much of the work is seasonal but there are still lots of businesses in the Paphos district
