I am consideration a possible relocation to EC.Back in 97 I spent time in Quito, Salinas etc.I'm sure things have changed.Salinas was my favorite. Can one make due on $800 PM.I currently live in the US.

If you live in a city such as Cuenca or Quito, DJ, here are some realities you may face in attempting to live on $800 per month:
-- Sharing a $300 apartment with two other renters.
-- Going without the $73/mo. IESS (Social Security) healthcare, and relying on the lowest rung in the health-care environment: free government care, usually not recommended for Gringos.
-- Rarely drinking alcoholic beverages.
-- Eating your meals at home after shopping at local Spanish-speaking mercados.
-- Traveling on public buses, virtually no taxis.
-- No vacation travel or overseas trips back home.
Many locals do live this way, so it may be possible for you.
