Russian going to Iceland

I am thinking about moving to Iceland in the future, and had a couple questions.

a) Do you have to be an Icelandic native to join the coast guard? For example like is the only requirement having citizenship or do you have to be ethnically Icelandic?

b) Is living in Iceland expensive? Would working in the coast guard be sufficient for a one bedroom apartment?

I doubt they can require you to be native born Icelandic vs being naturalized Icelandic. However, becoming naturalized (if that's your goal) takes at least 7 years.

As for the salary, I don't know what they pay (if you get a job there) but it's not cheap to live in Iceland. Food and other purchases are expensive because almost everything has to be flown in. Renting is quite tight because most people buy. Here you can see rental house prices:
