I lived in this country more than 20 years ago and I loved it, I then worked at the French Embassy. Retired, I came back to settle there and I live in “the capital!” for several years. I'm considering leaving because today the city tires me and sometimes irritates me, especially the "tapones". I knew Santo Domingo much calmer and quieter, it was still a "big" village with its open-air henhouse. In France I lived in Brittany, on the Cote d'Azur and Paris where I worked for many years. I love the Dominican Republic for its beauty, the kindness and helpfulness of the Dominicans and I feel good there.
