Young retiree, I like winter in the mountains for its sporting activities and on sunny days moving from the city to the countryside where I am happy with each passing day... The human scale of the locality allows constructive exchanges with locals which helps to restore a little our image as "condescending" foreigners according to what the Spanish give me as information. I thus prove to them that we must not generalize or else I am an exception!
My Spanish neighbors who helped me on several occasions despite the language barrier still being a bit marked. Proximity with elected officials since we can even call our mayor (alcalde) by Whatsapp with a systematic response. Calm and security in this golf course with a guard post at the entrance, a closed enclosure and permanent patrols. It's a change from Grenoble where there is a natural curfew at nightfall...
The many French-speaking foreigners who come on vacation to conquered territory in the complex where I live, not interested in enriching themselves with Spanish culture but more inclined to be condescending with the Spanish staff... It scandalizes me every time!

Total professional retraining by becoming a civil servant in an Administration may be appreciated by those administered as a general rule but an experience for me that is very instructive, especially through the exchange of information with all the other Administrations and their transversalities. You have to have been a civil servant to know that the civil servant is useful even if you have to recognize that the Administrations deserve a good reform... And this is where the citizens confuse those who work with those who decide who are the elected Politicians and who will never do anything to reduce costs and reconcile the citizens with their Public service.
