Questions about marriage process Philippines by SavannahRE
Hey everyone,I’m a foreign Muslim planning to marry my Filipina fiancée, who is a convert (born Christian Catholic). I’ve been researching the marriage process in the Philippines and have come across Imams and some law firms ...
Maybe you should look for religious forums? I mean, there are many Muslims in the Philippines who would better advise you of their experiences. Many of the men have probably had numerous marriages, so it may be routine stuff for them. I doubt Sharia ... Read More
Backup generator suggestions? by Larry Fisher
Getting too often lately with the brownouts. And there's always the possibility of another Odette in the area knocking power out for a month or more. I am seriously considering a backup generator. But I have no clue what size to get. This is a weak ...
That inverter would run a fridge but couldn't cope with the startup current. You'd need at least 3,000W inverter. That's a lot of batteries if you need it for a few hours. You'd need to be more detailed about how much power you'll need in order to ... Read More

Well, you could have used Skyscanner - I always do - and paid $2.5K for 23 hours flights. BTW, I would never travel without travel insurance, I'm 65 and I'm not mental, so I get excellent cover before I fly. Can't understand why anyone would not do ... Read More

@Prince James Skyscanner is the best comparison site I've found. I did a random search based on what you said and it comes out at $2,550 returns for both of you. That's Miami to Manila in April/May with Philippines Airlines and Jet Blue. Flights ... Read More
Manok (chicken) by whackerdog123
Can anyone explain to me the Filipinos inability to cut chicken properly? I have been all over the Philippines and they just don't or won't cut the chicken into discernible parts. Every time I go to a roasted chicken place like Baliwag or some ...
@whackerdog123 I totally agree. It's beyond me how or why they cut it the way they do - there is a right way of doing it.I too have been flummoxed as to what part of the bird is served, and there's hardly ever any actual meat on some portions. Read More

Is it more practical to marry your partner in the Philippines or the UK?
@mugteck And for Mike: Our application took a couple of months to set up, with all the English language, tests, biometrics etc and getting together all the required documents. We applied formally for a marriage visa and it took less than 2 months to ... Read More

Is it more practical to marry your partner in the Philippines or the UK?
Cheers Mike. The UK makes your partner and you jump through hoops mate. We actually ended up deciding to use a Filipina lady from Glasgow who has experience in applying for Fiancée visas to help us out. She cost £600, but I think it was ... Read More

Is it more practical to marry your partner in the Philippines or the UK?
Hi Mike, I thought about marrying over there, or even in a 3rd country, but the bureaucracy in the Philippines - along with things like having to attend counselling sessions - is worse than here. If you're going to live in the UK, I'd marry her ... Read More
easy to find indian , malaysian ,chinese, malay, thai spices etc by kdorge-expat
As a Malaysian I wonder how easy it is to find indian, chinese, thai, etc spices for us to cook at home? not into western food or other bland food tastes.
Well, I'm in the UK, so our national dish is Indian! We have some of the best Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi restaurants and I personally eat them regularly and can cook them too. I hate lemon grass though Thai is less to my liking, but British ... Read More

Hi, I think you need to visit France, Italy or Greece lol, then you can call the food "bland"! If the raw materials are of a very high standard, then subtle flavours work best. I know we're spoiled that way.As to sourcing herbs and spices, I lived ... Read More
Filipino attempts at American food by TitoDan
I'm a very non-picky person when it comes to food. I was raised on home cooking, meat and potatoes kinds of food, simply prepared with simple ingredients. I've given it several tries, and am giving up on local attempts at American ...
TitoDan's not wrong - the food you should be able to expect to be decent is far from it. The thing is, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, i.e. the quality of most meats is abysmal.Other than chicken - which can be ok - I couldn't find ... Read More

Does anybody know where to get oxycodone? by Tony Gonzo
Hi all. I’ve been prescribed 5mg oxycodone for my Crohn’s (IBD) flare-ups. I literally went to at least 20 pharmacies yesterday in cebu but none of them had it. Even the hospital pharmacies didnt seem to carry it. Any help would be great.
I needed Venlafaxine when I lived there and had been issued a prescription, but not one pharmacy, nor anywhere online could fill the script. I had to fly to Singapore to get my meds. Read More

Best BEEF and other meat in Cebu? by Larry Fisher

The only beef I could even attempt to eat when I was there was from Santis, a Swiss (I think) string of delicatessens. Much more expensive than in the UK, but I had a few decent sirloins from there. I don't know if there's one in Cebu. Read More
