I am 49 years old, I live between India and France. I have been married for 7 years to an Indian from Kashmir. When I stay in India I live with my Indian family, in Srinagar, on Dal Lake. I know that Kashmiris (and particularly houseboat owners) have the reputation (totally deserved) of seducing European women in order to obtain all possible benefits. This is not my case, I do not want to elaborate further on this subject, just know that it is indeed a marriage of love, which is indeed extremely rare but not impossible. “In India everything is possible”, even a love marriage! I dreamed of settling in India since adolescence, India is a country that “called” me. I am indeed happy there, even if I must indicate that I am happy everywhere. For me happiness depends neither on circumstances nor places but only on oneself. Living in an Indian family, I have knowledge of India seen from the “inside”. But be careful, in India everything and its opposite exist at the same time and we can never be certain about anything except that we know nothing! I offer my help on this blog because I know how complex it is to settle and live in India. My "little" experience may help. For my part, I am finalizing my final installation. Wanting to live in peace and privacy (more than rare commodities in India!), I will soon rent a house for the year in Rishikesh in which I will create a little cocoon/corner of paradise. Rishikesh is a perfect place for me, the setting is magnificent (fauna, flora) and by simple osmosis I nourish my spirituality there. My husband will join me there from time to time and I will go from time to time to stay in Kashmir with our family. I love Kashmir (especially in summer) and I love my Indian family deeply, but my need for privacy takes precedence and Rishikesh has always been part of my dream of settling in India. By the way, if anyone currently lives there or has lived there, I would really like them to get in touch with me via PM.
