About Boschendal;
ABOUT BOSCHENDAL WINE ESTATE
Boschendal is situated in the Franschhoek Valley, an area meaning ‘little French corner’ where Huguenot settlers fled religious persecution and shared their winemaking skills leading to its status as a premier wine-growing region in the South African Cape.

Boschendal’s viticultural heritage dates back to 1685 with vineyards that cover 6km along the slopes of the Groot Drakenstein Mountain towards the Dwarsriver, to the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain. French Huguenot Jean le Long was the first owner, but the De Villiers family were the ones to lay the farming foundations and build the Manor House.

The philosophy of winemaking places utmost importance on their natural heritage and the aim is to maintain the strong tradition whilst utilising modern innovation to produce premier wines. Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are planted on a large part of the estate, whilst recent plantings of red varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz have catapulted Boschendal on the path to become a top red wine producer in South Africa.

Join the guided walk through the various varietals and enjoy the view from the highest point on the farm on this Vineyard Tour, which you’ll have to book beforehand. Or perhaps meander through their maturation cellar amongst the oak barrels on a cellar tour. The knowledgeable hosts will guide you through a tasting in the oldest building on the estate, the Cellar Door Wine Tasting Centre.
