Welcome to The Little Latch Company - We are Paula and Laura, UK trained Infant Feeding Specialist Midwives and Tongue Tie Practitioners. Paula is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) whilst Laura will be taking the exam in April 2026. Paula has recently retired from her role as Infant Feeding Co-ordinator within the NHS whilst Laura still works as an Infant Feeding Specialist Midwife at a large maternity unit in the North West of England.
Our experience means we can offer a range of services to help you and your baby. Whatever the situation we take a baby-led, family-focused approach to build confidence and comfort for you and your baby.
Antenatal online consultations will help you prepare for feeding your baby whilst you are pregnant. If you have had a difficult feeding experience with a previous baby, been told that your pregnancy is ‘high risk’, are expecting to have your labour induced or have a caesarean, a consultation whilst you are pregnant will help you to prepare for feeding afterwards. We understand hospital procedures and interventions that may happen during a birth, and what measures are needed to keep your baby safe and well fed afterwards. We can help you prepare so that you know what to expect and discuss a plan with you that ensures that your feeding journey remains on track even if your birth is not straightforward.
Postnatal online consultations are available if you need reassurance or are experiencing feeding difficulties including:
Weight loss or faltering growth-we can help identify challenges and create a plan which supports you to continue breastfeeding whilst helping your baby to thrive.
Low milk supply may result from circumstances around birth or early feeding experiences, or may be due to a pre-existing condition or medical condition. We can provide evidence-based strategies for managing low supply and maximising the amounts of milk you can give, with advice tailored to your situation.
Wind, reflux and unsettled babies- We will take a full history and observe your baby feed (this can be done via video call). From this we can give advice as to what is normal behaviour, or whether there are aspects of feeding that can be changed to make life easier for you and your baby.
Tongue tie assessment and treatment- You may have been informed that your baby has a tongue tie, or you may suspect this from reading about some of the common symptoms. Although we are unable to accurately diagnose a tongue tie without performing an oral assessment we can provide information on what is tongue tie, what is a frenulotomy and how it is performed, what to expect before and after the procedure and whether it is necessary for your baby.
Our online consultations come with 2 weeks follow up support via text/email as standard.
