Building Environment Awareness
Nepal’s mountain ecology faces challenges due to population growth, resource demand, and deforestation. Climate change also impacts the livelihood of Himalayan communities. Snow Leopard Trek contributes to ecotourism through several initiatives:
Eco Trekking Workshops: Since 1996, we have conducted regular in-house Eco-Trekking workshops for our staff, covering basic environmental awareness, trail cleanliness, waste separation, and encouraging customers to minimize their carbon footprint. We also train tea house owners on environmental protection. Our Managing Director, Yankila Sherpa, played a key role in the successful running of TAAN’s Echo trekking workshops while she was on the TAAN executive board.
Snow Leopard’s major CSR activity has been through the Trans Himalayan Environment and Livelihood Program (T-HELP) Nepal, which is a non-profit organization where, since 2008, Yankila Sherpa has served as Vice President. Contributing her voluntary services addressing environmental issues and helping improve the livelihoods of poor and marginalized people of rural Nepal has given her the greatest satisfaction to see the improvement in the lives of rural women.
Microenterprise Promotion, some more work related to women's empowerment:
Yankila Sherpa was also one of the 5 women who founded the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Associations of Nepal (FWEAN) in 2003, and she served as its President in 2006 & 2007, and today she is in its advisory council. FWEAN supports less privileged women by providing skill training, micro-credit, and marketing skills.
