Azores Islands (ilhas dos Açores)

Nine stunning and distinct islands make up the Azores sit mid-Atlantic in the subtropics, roughly 1,300km west of Portugal, sometimes known as the Hawaii of the Atlantic. Each of these islands has its own culture, charm and unique scenery including volcanic landscapes, green pastures, crater lakes, lagoons, waterfalls and much more. If you have never visited, you must check it by yourself.

The most isolated are in extreme Western (Corvo and Flores) and in the extreme Eastern (Santa Maria). The most populous and best served by plane connections are São Miguel and Terceira Islands.

These volcanic islands are actually the tops of some of the tallest mountains on Earth, as measured from their bases at the bottom of the ocean. Even measured above sea level, the tallest peak, Ponta do Pico, is 2,351m high, so high that snow often falls at the summit in winter and early spring.

Pilgrimages to Fátima

Located in Central Portugal, the sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima (Santuário de Fátima) has become, throughout the years, one of the biggest catholic pilgrimage site in the world, due to the apparitions of Virgin Mary to three little shepherds in 1917.

In the Fátima calendar, the dates May 13th (the first apparition) and October 13th mean a rise in the numbers visiting the Sanctuary - built on the site of the first apparition - and the places where the three children lived.

The Fatima secret revealed in 1917 to these three children consists of three parts, of prophetic character.  The second part is especially important today... find out what it is about...

The largest artificial lake in Europe is the host of this tour where the fantastic sunset dazzles us and then gives a wonderful night sky. The monitors who guide the route are people born and raised in the region, who lived the entire process of building the Alqueva dam, knowing and making known its impact on the region.

The Dark Sky Alqueva Reserve is a unique sky discovery territory ... Over 260 days a year of clear skies, with a minimum level of light pollution, allow us to enjoy a unique star-gazing experience with the naked eye.

May 12 & 13th, 2023...

Yes Fátima is really worth the visit. Very beautiful and clean and magic little town with plenty of direct buses from Lisbon, that brings you right next to the sanctuary. Caldas da Rainha, not far from the coast, is also worth the visit. Take some beautiful walks near the water.
