Travelling to Portugal from Brazil (quarantine?)

Hi, I'm Irish (EU passport). I happened to get stuck in Brazil during the pandemic but I have a flight to Lisbon in a week (booked long ago). Can anybody tell me what the situation is now? Will I have to quarantine? How does that work? Could I be denied entry?

I know Brazil is on a watchlist, but Covid numbers here have gone down a lot in the past couple of months. I'm obliged to leave Brazil because my visa has expired.

Hi

As far as I am aware you do need to quarantine for 14 days when you arrive in Portugal from Brazil, however you do need a negative covid test done with in 72 hours prior to entering. You can isolate for the 14 days  where you are staying in Portugal, provided you are alone.

Hi Emerald,

COVID-19 | Measures implemented in Portugal:

Thanks for that. It says I can travel to Portugal from Brazil for "essential" reasons, with essential being "professional purposes, study, family reunions, health and humanitarian".

That seems pretty broad. Can I say I am going to Portugal for a family reunion? What evidence would I be asked to produce? Again, is there any chance of being denied entry if I cannot produce evidence?

I'm going to have a negative PCR test, so please don't worry about me infecting people.

I just need to know what this "essential travel" thing means. I heard that it also applied to people travelling from the UK. Can anyone speak from personal experience? Did you have to fill out any special form or make any declaration? What did you say?

I am not rich and cannot afford to cancel my flight and lose the price of my ticket. Also I am compelled to leave Brazil because my visa has expired. I would really appreciate some help and clarification. Also, is the quarantine enforced in any particular way?

It is very likely that you will have to go through quarantine. The issue of your visa expiring is a good reason not to postpone your trip.

11. Will I be subject to quarantine upon arrival in Portugal?

Passengers coming from South Africa, Brazil, India, Nepal and the United Kingdom must comply, after entering mainland Portugal, with a prophylactic isolation period of 14 days, at home or at a place indicated by the health authorities.

This rule also applies to land and sea border entries.

Passengers coming from the above mentioned countries must fill in the form on the travel.sef.pt platform:

(English available)

Thanks! So I guess if any question arose about "travel for essential reasons" I could state my visa's expiration as being forcing and hence an essential reason.

About this quarantine (self-isolation), is that basically something I am responsible for, or are there any special procedures? Am I required to submit any kind of proof besides an address at a hotel?

I just want to make sure I don't get any surprises.

Yes. You will have to register with SEF potfelactic quarantine website, have a covid test 72 hours before you board and your quarantine will be 14 days as Brazil, like South Africa is on the red country list. We have just completed our quarantine.

Make sure you have your rest results printed with you and printed certificate from the SEF portugal Idolation website. They will send it to you when you register.
