CPR registration during a short-term lease

Hi everyone, I'm currently living in a hotel in Copenhagen with my CPR registered here. Now, I would like to move to a sub-let starting from 1st of July for 2 months and then find a permanent apartment for longer term starting from 1st of September.

Because the sub-let is only 2 months, the apartment owner doesn't offer CPR registration (because he'll stay registered there).

Could this be a problem for my CPR registration? In theory, I should de-register 5 days after leaving my hotel, but I'll only be able to register again in September when I find my permanent apartment.

I think there must be a way to solve this because many Danish rent out their apartments during the summer. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks a lot for any feedback or ideas! 🙂👍

As long as you live in Denmark, you have to be registered somewhere.

Remain at the hotel till you find a permanent housing, register at the sublet you have found or find another sublet.

As a rule, I see no problem in your registering at the sublease. That he'll stay registered there shouldn't be a cause for the rejection itself.

Hey Nellie, thanks a lot for your reply! Super helpful, as always! :)

Kind regards
Matt

Hi Matt,

I must add that I am a little concerned when you aren't allowed to register at the address. If he is owner of the flat, nothing can prevent him from letting another person register. If he is a tenant, a clause in his tenancy agreement might prevent him from subleasing, but normally, I take it for a warning when you aren't allowed to register and I would find another place.

From time to time we hear about fraudsters exploiting the housing market, some even rent a AirBnB for a night, pretend to be the owner, gets the lease cash and hands out the key. You cannot be too cautious.
