I need some advice please!

Hello,

I am in the final stages of accepting a role in a Bjerrinbro, relocating from the UK and I would like some guidance on a couple of things:

I am in my early 30's single, female and I am considering

- because of Covid 19 I am likely to begin on boarding in the UK, how will this work from a tax perspective if I still live in the UK?

- Best place to live and commute ? I am considering Silkeberg, Aarhus. I like the balance between city and country life and I have a dog so would need access to outdoor space.

-I am in the stages of negotiating a final relocation package, the move is expectantly costly and the hiring company are not too keen on providing any costs to assist (some help with accommodation finding and taxes etc). Do you think it is worthwhile pushing back on this more ?

- I am not bringing my car with me but I will certainly need one and I will get a small car payment allowance. What would you expect to be the cost of leasing a small hatchback car ? Is it genrally expected to pay upfront costs?

As I understand the rules, you'll be taxable of your Danish income in Scotland as long as you live there. As Skat expresses it: You'll probably be taxable in your home country, do ask the authorities there.

You can lease a car from 1,500 kroner a month. Sometimes you have to pay an upfront amount which may be lost when you return the car. Maybe, a membership fee to The FDM (equivalent to The AA) will pay off (660 kroner a year). They offer a valuable help in many ways.

I find commuting time is a waste of time (and money), and as you have a dog, I would prioritize time with the dog and find a housing in the area of Bjerringbro. I would exclude Aarhus because of the long commuting time and because rents are in the high end. Silkeborg is a nice town, but so is Viborg, and if you one day would like to go by train, the commuting time from here is much better.

You don't ask the forum about the offered pay level etc., but as you future company is an estimated company, I would absolutely expect a relocation package which also include help to find a flat/house etc.

Thank you for your reply it is much helpful so far.

My thoughts about commuting rather being based in
bjerringbro, were that at present it is expected to work from the home office at least 3 days per week, so the 2 days commuting may not be so bad, but as you correctly state I do not wish to have a long commute.

With regards to the salary offered, they have confirmed they will offer to support with finding a property and helping with tax set up in the first year etc, however they are stating they will not offer any further relocation costs which I'm finding quite hard to believe as I have always been offered this, even with jobs within the UK.

The salary offered is 655,000 per annum plus 5% incentive, small car allowance (I believe about 1700dkk per month) - I appreciate that this is probably a very reasonable salary in Denmark however I am concerned about the upfront costs. Would you consider this a good offer?

I also have some questions about housing, I'd like to find a place with at least a small garden (ground floor) because of the dog and ideally a small house. What would you expect to be estimate on costs per month and how likely is it to find such property within commutable distance?

Hi Sarah,

It is expected that all citizens who want a Covid19 vaccination, will be vaccinated (twice) before July, and we may believe that we will not have to work at home any longer. Find something local housing, you'll save time and money, don't have to calculate with rush hours, deise car windows etc. ............ The list is long with cons. Choosing Bjerringbro will also make it easier to find local friends as larger cities are more unpersonal.

In these Covid19 times, many walking groups have emerged as a good means to socialise. I can warmly recommend you to join such a group. People are very diverse, background, age, ..... I have joined two such groups now, and I am so fond of my groups. A good way to come in contact with other locals as the groups are not devoted to special interests. I like walking, try to walk every day, but then comes rain, I am busy, ........., but if you know some others will be at the meeting point, you go despite the weather. I have learnt more people to know the last three months that I have during all the time I have lived in my little town (14 years). FDM has made some calculations about leasing small cars. It may be cheap
er to buy a car. Nor is it always an advantage to get a employer paid car, again especially when it comes to small cars. That's why I suggested to you to consider a membership of the FDM.

The pay is absolute very fine, and it is also a very good thing that they'll help you to find a housing. Do remember that any kind of income is taxable, also the relocation package. I don't know what to say about the non-relocation package. It's not something I have any knowledge about, but a very cautious guesstimate will be that it isn't so common in Denmark as in some other countries, and your future employer is an international company which may act due to general praxis?

When it comes to prepaid rent and deposit, the landlord can claim 3 months' prepaid rent (notice period)+ deposit (3 months' rent) + current rent = 7 months' rent. I guess this is worst case. I take that it often is current rent prepaid 1 month + deposit 3 months' rent. Having an estimated employer to help will be much worth.

Here are some links to housing sites. It seems that there are many housings to get and at very reasonable prices. In my part of the country it's double up. I am sure that you can find a terraced house or a little house at a good price. Just to give you an impression, your employer may find something more suitable to you.
