Cooking like a local in Nigeria

Hello,

Enjoying the local food of your expat country is great, but learning to cook the dishes yourself is even better. Please share what it's like cooking like a local in Nigeria.

What are some of the most popular local dishes that are easy to prepare?

What are the most common ingredients used in dishes in Nigeria? Where can you purchase them?

Is there a specific technique or a secret ingredient to master the local cuisine?

Are there resources available to teach you to cook like a local (classes, websites, etc.)?

What are the advantages of learning to prepare local dishes in Nigeria?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Hi

As for me local food is a big challenge I just can not relate so I will keep trying . I miss my braai wors, gravy without skin and pap.

Youtube is best assistant.

However, to my experience cooking Nigerian dishes is simple. Most popular dish is Jaloff Rice, Ponded Yam, Roasted Yam, Roasted Bananas, Curry with Chicken or mutton or fish. Normally Nigerian prefer chicken or fish with skin. They also like roasted/grilled or fried chicken, mutton, fish or prone etc.
