What other budget expat locations have people experienced?

Having lived for more than20 years on 3 different islands when it was close to my "retiring", I spent almost 2 years researching for a place to spend the rest of my life. I looked into many of those places. I knew what I needed to be content without lifes normal constraints.  The DR kept coming up with the most advantages with affordability near the top of the list if not the top.  All of my criteria were pretty much met. I had visited here many times so had a good idea of what to expect I sold my bar/restaurant in St. Croix & moved here on March 4th. 2002. My years here have confirmed many times over, that it was the correct decision. I love the North Shore, from Cabrera to Sosua.  Sosua is truly my "Home". Being a real Gypsy by blood & heritage, that is saying a hell of a lot.
