CANCELLATION OF VISA

Can anybody tell me how long one can stay after one has cancelled ones Visa here?

If you are in the country based on a time-limited visa and have not obtained a renewal of the visa, another means of extending your residency or other legal right to be here, your time is up as of 11:59 p.m. on the end-date of your visa.

Overstay penalties have historically involved loss of right to re-enter Ecuador for nine months or up to a year.

we have an investment visa. I need to know once we cancel this visa how long am I allowed to be in the country as an South African citizen? It shows that South Africans don't need a visa for 90 days. Would this then start once we have cancelled our residency visa? I basically need to cancel my residency in Ecuador but need to know how much time I have before leaving the country.

Your timeline is unclear.

However, even if you clarified it, I wouldn't trust information provided by Expats on this site for this kind of "inside baseball" about such a visa sofisticada.

You should contact the Cancillería, a visa specialist or an attorney for reliable information pertaining to your individual case.

I think you need to contact an attorney for getting the precise information. If you need any referral you can contact Lina ** & Jose ***. They give you the exact information. Her email : ***

My friend canceled his investment visa and returned to the UK a couple of years ago. When he canceled the visa, he was given 48 hours to leave.

What did you finally do?  I am thinking to cancel the investor visa too.  Can you share your experiences?

This thread was dormant since 2017 and the other early posters have not been active on Expat.com this year.

An Expat.com member passed the Ecuador citizenship test in the pre-covid era.  This enabled him to cash out the investment that had been keeping his lifetime visa active, yet still retain the right to live in La República .. thanks to his new Ecuadorian passport.

Thank you very much for the information.  Do you know what should I do if I want to submit the cancellation of visa?

That may depend on whether you have representation (visa specialist or attorney) .. and when/whether you plan to leave Ecuador.

For instance, if you have an attorney, ask him or her how to surrender the visa.

If you are leaving Ecuador, you can probably surrender the visa to Inmigración at the airport or a border crossing.  It may require marking the visa Cancelado on its page in your passport.
