Dear Dan,

Welcome to the Ecuador forum.

narcotic. a potentially addictive drug that tends to affect one's mood or behavior.

Narcotics are available in Ecuador, classified as psicotrópicos y estupefacientes, and are treated as controlled substances, typically not available legally over the counter.

These drugs may not be authorized by general practitioners, but by specialists who have been charging $50 per office visit .. and who can issue a receta especial or special prescription for narcotic drugs.  These scripts are then filled at any one of a limited number of pharmacies that carry the product(s).

Doctors associated with Hospital Metropolitano de Ecuador in Quito are a likely source for the medications you need, although they may go by different pharmaceutical names in Ecuador.  Ask the specialist doctor to direct you to a pharmacy that can fill your prescriptions.

Thank you for the info
