Recognition of foreign qualifications in the Netherlands

Hello everyone,

Were your professional qualifications recognised in the Netherlands? What country did you complete your qualifications in? What profession are you in?

Did you have to go through any formalities to get your qualifications recognised, such as to have them translated?

If your qualifications weren't recognised, were there any additional tests or exams you had to complete before you were able to practice your profession in the Netherlands or continue with your studies?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Priscilla

Hello Priscilla,

Yea, It is recognized. Most foreign qualification and degrees are accepted in the Dutch educational institutions as long as they are issued from officially recognized and accredited institutions at the country of origin. Translating certificates usually into English is normally needed so that it can help the overseas institutions understand what is stated therein.

Yes, Indeed, In order to practice your profession in a foreign country like the Netherlands, you have to pass some kinds of equivalence exams so as to assure the degree you already got from your country sufficiently qualify you, within the standard level of knowledge and expertise as per the local professionals, to practice the profession efficiently.

I'm glad someone asked this question as I wanted to ask the same question today.

@Sharkawy86

Do you know by any chance where to get qualifications recognised and where to do that exam?

Hi all,

To add to the conversation; if the qualification was not issued in the EU, it will need to be evaluated; not all world-wide qualifications exist in the Netherlands and some are regulated; to find out where you stand, follow this link the the NUFFIC website.

If your qualification is not regulated, then you are free to pursue it in the Netherlands, whether a potential employer will accept it is another matter completely.

Hope this helps.

I completed a bachelors degree of science in accounting and finance, In Uganda Kampala, Kyambogo University.
I have a 1 year experience with quick books, tally ERP and micro soft office applications required in the field.
Is my qualification recognised in Netherlands and  how do i apply for a job in the bracket of my qualification and experience ( whats the best way or plat form) to find a job in Netherlands.

Hi Jonathan and welcome to the forum. :)

First off, at the top of the page is our Handy Tools section, contained in there are our Expat guides that will help you in planning your move to the Netherlands.

To answer your questions:

In accountancy, in general, if you're a Chartered Accountant, then that's pretty much recognised world-wide and you shouldn't have much of a problem getting a job anywhere.

Most multi-nationals use their own in-house accountancy packages, so while MS Office packages experience are pretty much expected in all accountancy roles, it's experience in using in-house platforms that is more relevant when highlighting your own experience.

As to whether your diploma is recognised anywhere in the EU, then I advise you to follow this link.

With regards to Holland in particular, I' advise you to contact NUFFIC.

Hope this helps.

Then, assuming you don't hold an EU passport, you will need to go through the Immigration Process, the first part of which will be finding a job offer that will sponsor you through it.  You should be aware that you will almost certainly have to go through the Dutch Integration process which will involve you learning Dutch.

My advice would be to use Google to find an agency (called "Uitzendbureau" in Dutch) that specialises in finance positions, then contact them and see what advice they can offer you.
