Death certificate or if a death of a us citizen was ever recorded

does anyone know how to find out if a death of a us citizen who relocated in Belize was ever recorded and if so how do i obtain a death certificate?

lynn333 - I would start with calling Vital Statistics at the Registrar General. The phone number is 223-5625.

I would call the embassy. I had a friend die when I was in Bolivia, and they had to go through the embassy to get her body home. Even though they probably don't handle death certificates, they probably can tell you where to go.

This is, or is supposed to be, the process. A medical practitioner/hospital signs a "Medical Certificate of Causes of Death", which has to be forwarded to the General Registry within 4 days of date of death. Copies of that certificate are kept with medical practitioner/hospital, Medical Statistics and the General Registry.

Additionally, when dealing with anybody in an official capacity, don't wait for them to contact you telling you the paperwork is ready.  Do your own follow-up.
