Specialists - Hema/Rheum/Endo

Hi all!

New to the forum, but I've been lurking ever since we moved down here 1.5 years ago.

I've been having some health problems, and my amazing primary care (if anyone needs one, she's WONDERFUL and has offices in Isla Verde and Luquillo!) really, really wants me to see a rheumatologist, endocrinologist, and get a second opinion from a hematologist. My bloodwork results make me basically a case for "Dr. House" right now, and she's really worried about me. I'm all wrong, all over the place.

However, healthcare in PR being what it is, the earliest appointments I've been able to make are in late July/early August. And that's with random doctors I found on ratemds/healthgrades, not with any real referral. She doesn't want me to wait that long, since we don't know whether something is seriously wrong with me. :(

Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Katie

Katie, If she is so worried and since she knows and deals with a lot of doctors, maybe her staff can make the apointment for you or at least tell you who can see you soonest.
Some of my specialist appointsments are done by my US doctor staff.

Hey there! She's trying, there just aren't many specialists left, so trying to get an appointment within the next month has been hard. And every endocrinologist I've called is telling me October - gulp! :)

This is not sounding good at all. Have you thought about flying over to the States to be seen by someone, say in Florida? It happens quite a bit. My FIL sought medical attention in NC when he couldn't get the care he needed in the time he needed it, saved his life.

Hi Katie...I can understand your frustration. For rhuematology I recommend Dra. Irma Vazquez Sanabria. She has a new clinic across from Auxillio Mutuo in Hato Rey and was a Dr. at Mayo Clinic. She is very responsive...tell her secretary its urgent. 939-337-0669.
