Tena is the gateway to the selva Oriente or Ecuadorian jungle. The city attracts few Expats besides some kayak enthusiasts, reforestation volunteers and backpackers eager to view the Amazon rainforest, its wildlife and indigenous tribes.
The city of Tena -- pop. 34,000, metro area 60,000, per Wikipedia -- is a hot and humid jumping-off place for an even-more-hot-and-humid jungle experience.
