Living costs - Lombok

Appreciate if any can give advice/assessment of living costs per fortnight living in Lombok, excluding accommodation, not living the high life or the low life, just normal everyday costs for 2 people.

Thanks in advance

Vin

Hi Vin,

I think that it depends on your lifestyle, whether you like to buy expensive items or if you use to live a simple life. ;)

I invite you to have a look at the threads in the Cost of living in Indonesia section, you might find some useful information there.

Thanks,

Priscilla

I agree with the prior poster Vin, your question is way too broad brushed to be answered in detail.

Where in Lombok…Senggigi, the Gili islands, Kuta…?

Looking at Sekoting... At this time.

There are two types of expat life.

The first is the "Bule bubble" where the foreigner acts like a lord, buys everything in $US, paying over the top for everything they touch.
Their house is rented at a stupid price, they pay the maid at least three or four times a normal salary, and their car and driver cost a crazy amount every month.

The other sort is living like a normal middle class family in a normal house (commonly in a small cluster with security), and going to the local shops to do their weekly shopping.

Lombok doesn't have the massive shopping centres that are common in many other areas of Indonesia, so silly shopping is out of the question anyway.
Alcohol will cost you really silly money.

The old rule is always king _if it's in US$ - DON'T

Vin, I haven't personally visited Sekotong yet, but have friends here in Bali who have leased land for small hotel development there.  For them it's paradise, and indeed from their photos it sure looks awesome enough.

You might consider joining the Lombok Lovers forum (just Google it) because as the name suggests, it is specific to both Lombok expats and devotees.

Good luck with your plans.

Thanks Ubudian, appreciated.
Unfortunately I cannot find the Lombok Lovers blog, one I googled turned out to be porn... Lol.,
I found one on FB and it's in Indonesian.... Ha well onward and upward...:)

Cheers

Vin

OK Vin, here's a direct link to it:

http://lomboklovers.aforumfree.com/

This forum is run by a wonderful English lady expat named Gemma who together with her Balinese husband, Made, run a cozy homestay near Kuta (Lombok) called Mimpi Manis (Sweet Dreams).

Her forum has been around for quite a while so there is a lot of useful information to be found within its archives.

Cheers!
