Exit Perth airport between 2 flights

Hello,

my girlfriend and I are flying to Melbourne (from Mauritius), but we've got to wait six hours in Perth for the second flight.

Is it possible to exit the airport for 2-3 hours, or not ?

Many thanks,

Julien

Hi Julien,

In Australia like in most other countries when you transfer from an international flight to a domestic flight it is there you will pass through Customs & Immigrations. It is likely that the connecting flight will even be in another terminal building so you collect your baggage and pass through customs in Perth before flying on to Melbourne.

As far as I'm aware, once you've passed through Customs & Immigrations in any country, if you then check your luggage in for the connecting flight you can pretty much do as you please during your wait time. If you have time to leave the airport that shouldn't be a problem. Just remember you still want to get back with plenty of time left over to catch your connecting flight.

At least that's what appears to be the case in the two links about  other transfers in Australia.

PS:  Have a great trip!!!

This Australia Customs and Border Protection Service brochure will probably help too if you don't already have it

Once you have cleared customs and immigration in Perth International there is a free bus that will take you to the domestic terminal.
I suggest you take your luggage and check in for your domestic flight first.
Then perhaps take a bus into the City. Taxis are very very expensive. $50 to go into the city. You could look at a bus to the closest beach for a quick coffee.
Just remember you have to be back in the domestic terminal 1 hour before the flight leaves.

Thanks James and Stumpy for your posts !

My pleasure, big guy! Hope you both have a wonderful trip, even though I know it's probably work related for you.... as always.

Anyway, find some time to relax and enjoy. Have a safe journey .

Cheers,
James

This time (believe me it's been a long, long while) it is purely for holidays :)

Ms C. and I have been dreaming of this for a long while now ! I started thinking about settling down in Aus 10+ years ago (I had many Australian friends while I was living in London). And well, we're going there for holidays and that's not so bad :)
