Work Permit Class/Type Changes

For those of you about to apply for/ renew your Work Permit, please note that there have been changes to the type of Work Permit classes so be aware you do not apply for the wrong Class:

    Class A – Issued to persons who intend to engage in prospecting for minerals or mining. Non-Refundable Processing Fee is KES 10,000; Application Fee is KES 250,000 per year.

    Class B – Issued to persons wishing to invest in Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. Non-Refundable Processing Fee is KES 10,000; Application Fee is KES 100,000 per year.

    Class C – Issued to persons wishing to practice certain prescribed professions, e.g. Journalism, Doctor, etc (for this you must have proof of membership to the prescribed profession here in Kenya including the necessary licenses). Non-Refundable Processing Fee is KES 10,000; Application Fee is KES 100,000 per year.

    Class D - Issued to a person who is offered specific employment by a specific employer who is qualified to undertake that employment. Non-Refundable Processing Fee is KES 10,000; Application Fee is KES 200,000 per year.

    Class F – Issued to investors in the manufacturing sector. Non-Refundable Processing Fee is KES 10,000; Application Fee is KES 100,000 per year. One must also produce proof of funds amounting to USD 100,000 (US Dollars) to be invested.

    Class G - Issued to investors in trade or business (other than a prescribed profession). Non-Refundable Processing Fee is KES 10,000; Application Fee is KES 100,000 per year. One must also produce proof of funds amounting to USD 100,000 (US Dollars) to be invested.

    Class I – Issued to a member of a missionary society approved by the Government of Kenya and whose presence is beneficial to the country.Non-Refundable Processing Fee is KES 1,000; Application Fee is KES 5,000 per year.

    Class K - Issued to a person who has an assured income derived from sources outside and undertakes not to accept paid employment of any kind (this is for retirees). Only eligible to those 35 and above years of age. Non-Refundable Processing Fee is KES 10,000; Application Fee is KES 100,000 per year.

    Class M – Issued to conventional Refugees

Kindly note that each Class requires different supporting documents. Also note renewals are now required to be done 3 months prior to the expiry date of your current work permit.

thanks for the info, how about those who already applied in May-June, is there any change due to management change. I read somewhere, there is some 100-day program by new Head of Immi.

If you applied in May/June, you should have automatically fallen into the above changes as these were officiated in Jan/Feb of this year.
It is true that work permits are not been processed at the moment - the new Head of Immigration is apparently restructuring staff members and making some changes at entry points; however, as far as costs etc are concerned, I do not think she will be changing these again. Her focus is more on tackling work ethics, etc.
