My family is new to Istanbul. Are there certain neighborhoods that anyone would particularly recommend for expat families?

I recommend Basaksehir (where I live) it's safe, clean , green . But a bit far from the city center.
This year the metro will start functioning.

The rents in that area
85 sqm. 2+1 unfurnished 350-420 usd + deposit
115 sqm 3+1 unfurnished 500 -600 usd+ deposit
You can have a walk and refresh at sular vadisi and forget the whole day stress.
