One of the world’s most contradictory and enigmatic countries, Japan is where the ancient and the modern not only meet, but they intertwine and blend into a truly unique concoction. Home to some of the latest scientific advances, multinational tech corporations and blossoming sakura gardens, “The Land of the Rising Sun” is a mystery any nomad would be lucky to explore.

Located on the west of the Honshu Island Hiroshima is one of the most famous cities in Japan. It is, unfortunately, most well-known as one of the two cities struck by an atomic bomb in 1945, and the city’s history is something that draws people to it. Its history, however, is not all that Hiroshima has to offer, and the city has many appealing aspects (including sports, famous food and suburb natural scenery) that make many expatriates want to live and work there.

As one of Japan's largest cities it is no surprise that Osaka has an equally large job market. Located in the Kansai region on the Honshu Island the city has many international/multinational companies, particularly in the education/ humanities fields but also in tourism, shipping and trade, retail and more. There are numerous job opportunities for expats in Osaka.

The economy of Kyoto is very strong and its main economic contribution comes from electronics. This is because the headquarters of top electrical companies like Nintendo, Omron and Nissen Electric are located in the city. Tourism, textile and automotive industries also make a significant contribution to the economy. Kyoto is also home to many educational institutions and thus education is another provider of the city’s economy. Finding a job in Kyoto should be fairly straightforward.

Though Japan has terrific public transportation services within the cities, once you hit the more rural areas it becomes a pain to get anywhere without a car and thus being able to drive is often a necessity. Driving in Japan may be quite a different experience from driving in your home country.
