How much does it cost to rent an apartment or a house in Kenya? How about buying an apartment or a house in Kenya?
The average cost per month a good one for 3bed room House (Each with attached Bath), 1 Dining room + Security is 1500USD/Month. Below average you can find in 600 USD/ Month.
For buying an apartment I don't have any clue.


How much do you pay on average for public transportation (bus, subway, train, tram, taxi)?
The average cost for hiring any taxi or uber is like 350 KES per 7Km and on high demand it can cost you approx. 800KES for the same distance.

How much do you pay for basic food items such as rice, bread, and pasta?

Rice per KG is around 165/KG, one small Bread is 75 KES per 400gram, Pasta ranges from 155KES to 250KES per 500gram, Onions are 120KES/Kg, Tomatoes are 119KES (Italian) & 190KES (Round ones) per Kg & Potatoes are 145KES/Kg

What is your monthly budget for groceries?

It depends upon your life style but average for 3 persons is 400usd/Month (40,000 KES) not including drinks (alcohol).

How much does it cost to see a doctor or health specialist in Kenya?

I haven't experienced any consultation with general physician but for dental clinic cleansing of teeth's cost around 14,000KES with two sessions Average.

How much do you pay for health insurance per month?

How much does childcare cost on average per month?
No Idea

What is your child's schooling budget per month?
No idea

How much does it cost to fill up your car's fuel tank?

Fuel per liter is about 112 KES and consumption depends upon your traveling of course.

How much do you pay for electricity/gas/water etc., per month?

Its included in my house rent.

How much do you pay for your internet and phone subscription?

There are some packages of safaricom you can get 25Gb/Month in 3,000 KES and a device will cost you 6,000 KES.

How much do you pay for your lunch pack on weekdays?

Average lunch cost 1,500kES to 2,000KES from a good restaurant & if you go to any local one you can get your lunch in only 400KES average.

How much do you pay for an espresso coffee?

Coffee ranges from 150KES to 300 KES depends upon the type and size.


How much do you pay for a cinema ticket?

It costs 500KES for a regular ticket.

How much does a gym membership cost in Kenya?

Average per month is about 10,000KES to 12,000 KES per month

For buying an apartment.
Depending on the location, outskirts range from 8-14m depending on house size, while in Nairobi up town areas  3 bedrooms range from 21-28m depending on the size. If you are moving in about 30 months you could consider off plan apartments, lower priced i.e 18m for the same apartments, with upto 4 years to pay at 0% interest. Side chat for more info.


How much do you pay for health insurance per month?
Health Insurance is  mostly paid annually, for one person, it could be 60,000 KES, covering broad range of insurance inclusive of cosmetic, dentist and optic.

How much does childcare cost on average per month?
Good nanny cost around 45,000 if they are in house, day nannies are a bit cheaper say 30,000 KES.

What is your child's schooling budget per month?
Per month I'd say around 35,000 KES. Depends on the school.


How much do you pay for electricity/gas/water etc., per month?

For electricity, I use about 5,000 KES, I usually use 1 mid sized gas for about 3 months. Water uses about 15-20 units with 150KES per unit.


How much do you pay for a cinema ticket?

It costs 500 KES for a student ticket. 800 KES for a regular.
