Private Medical Insurance

Hi.
I want to arrange Private Medical Insurance for my fiancee, currently living in The Philippines.
Does anyone have any recommendations or advice that they can offer.
Regards
Steve

I used for my ex-GF Pacific Cross.  I think we obtained it via BDO or PAL.  Both of which offer travel insurance.

It is good that you are doing the travel insurance for her, not sure if this is her first trip out of the Philippines, but if so it helps the Filipina with showing the BOI that it is a genuine trip.

Many thanks for your reply but my question is about medical and not travel insurance.
We already have my fiancees passport and are now applying for her visa but......whilst still in The Philippines, I want to get her PMI in place as it will be many months beofre she can live in the UK with me.
Thanks any way for taking the time to reply.

Sorry I cant help on your question, now I have read it properly.

Is she Philippina?

After 2 years of searching the quick answer is this:

No company offers a plan that is cost effective in the Philippines for any health insurance even just catastrophic for a non citizen.  5 days Private hospitalization for my wife with major operation cost 300,000.  Private insurance premiums are about 100,000 per year.  Do the math, self insure.

Phil health for a citizen is cheap 2400, but they only paid 32,000.  For non citizen the premium is 40,000.  You would have to do multiple operations each year to get them to reimburse anything near your premium.  Do the math, self insure.

There is no sensible reason for anything other than hospitalization insurance, office visits and care are just not expensive.

If u cannot pay your bill the hospitals typically will not let you out.

History is a fascinating teacher and guide for one's life
The government is not your papa or your mama or even your friend like the US or Europe, or Australia.  The government  at best tolerates the people but only as servants that pay for politicians and friends lavish lifestyle  aka the Spanish Colonial days.  The US was not here long or strong enough to make much difference in the culture.  The US had turned civil admin over to the Philippines within one generation.

In this country there is only one person you can depend on.  Yourself.   Philippinoes have the family.
I put 500,000, (about 10,000 us) in a 5 year local bank bond that pays 5% interest. I exercise daily and take care of my health and have a wife that will tell me if I am being less than smart.  I also treat her family and children as my own.

Hi and many thanks for your message.
My fiancee is a Filipina....just paid to have her stay in a prvate hospital for 5 days and yes, they would not let her leave untill the account was cleared.

I understand your point of view......but.....

I have medical insurance for me....as at the moment I still live in the UK.
The insurance is there in case I need it.....but I hope I never do.
It costs me £100 sterling per month.

I take the same view with medical insurance for my fiancee living in the Philippines.
I am hoping to get her covered for all treatments.....just in case.....and at the moment am looking at premiums of just under 9000 per month.

For me......this seems a good idea as it will only be in place for hopefully under 12 months until she comes to the UK.

Regards and thanks

Steve

Individual situations may vary.

We are here for good.
In this country there is no cost effective way for expats to insure nor for citizens to insure such that private hospitalization is reasonably covered.  The least expensive private insurance we found in country was 100,000 per year, excluded any heart conditions but was otherwise comprehensive.  But remember, office visits are less than 500 Peso. PhilHealth was previously spoken of.  So to break even you would have to have one hospitalization non-heart related every 3 years.  The odds greatly favor the house......  That is not in line with the insurance we are familiar with which is sharing the risk a bit more equitably.  Offshore companies the numbers are far worst.

I agree - healthcare is so inexpensive here that it's hardly worth it to buy insurance, especially for a young person. I carry US medical insurance as I am there part time and the costs of care are so prohibitive but have never felt the need here in Phils. Even an MRI on my knee was only about 12K pesos with the doctor visits included.

Are you worried about an accident of some type?

Hi and thanks for your reply.
The insurance is specifically for my fiancee who currently lives in The Philippines.....near Ozamis.
Public hospitals are not "pleasant" and as I have just paid for her to go into a private hospital for three days I am weighing up the costs of hospital stay out of my own pocket or if better to have an all inclusive insrance policy?

Thank You,

Good information is a key ingredient in making good decisions.  Additional information such as your experience with the MRI helps alot.  Outside of Philippines that MRI would have easily cost almost a years worth of premiums.  Here the cost premium ratio is opposite, cost low premium for us hi.  That MRI cost you only a small fraction of the annual premium of even PhilHealth (30-40K for us).  That is further compounded by the fact insurance would then cover only a portion of it.

In the UK.....I have private medical insurance and pay £xxx / month. IF I am ever ill or need to be treated in hospital my insurance pays for everything.
I like to have this reassurance that I dont have to wait to be seen by a specialist in the NHS ..... or wait for an operation .....or wait for ongoing care...... and so on.

I am prepared to pay for this monthly .... and hope I never actually need it!!!!!!

I have been looking for the same in the Philippines yet all the replies I get are telling me it either does not exist / dont bother coz tyhe premiums are so high it is better to just pay for operations etc if they are needed.

I have myself found several companies that do offer what I am looking for and I attach their details here for information ......

"MEDICard is a Health Maintenance Organization that provides a comprehensive health care program for its members. This includes emergency care, hospital confinement, preventive health care, dental care and out-patient consultation services. MEDICard is not an insurance company because unlike an insurance company where you pay your bills for reimbursement later, MEDICard guarantees all your medical expenses, including that all-important hospital deposit. Then you need not worry about money. All you need is your MEDICard ID. MEDICard will take care of everything else for you. Today, with a total of more than 448,000 members, MEDICard Philippines, Inc. is associated with over 8,000 accredited doctor, specialists and dentists, operating out of over 300 hospitals and clinics nationwide. Operating 24 hours each and every day, MEDICard Philippines, Inc. provides a quality healthcare service to all its members."

I offer this here in case others are interested in this as a route to insure their loved ones health needs.....and the cost is 1785PHP per month.....which to me is very reasonable.
