Where is the best place to stay in Rome?? long & short term

Hello all,

Where abouts would be the best place to stay in Rome? i'm talking most central, and (I could be kidding myself here) but also most affordable

My partner and I will be arriving in rome on 22nd May 2011,

also when you are basing yourself in Rome and you travel to other cities & other parts of Europe for a weekend say, is there storage places where you can leave your big backpack so that you can just carry a small one around?

Hey there,

Are you looking at hostels or hotels? Central is doable, although at that time of May its sort of the beginning of peak tourist season. But anywhere along the metro lines should be fine as well. Try not to go more than 5 stops away from Termini, but up to 5 stops you're still very close and accessible to all the major sites.

As for storing of your back pack, sorry I can't help you there. Have you tried googling possibilities? Maybe you can ask the hotel where you end up staying if they can hold it as well.
