Proceeds raised fund the development of paediatric oncology in Vietnam
Vietnam has a very high rate of cancer prevalence and incidence amongst children, a problem compounded by minimal relevant knowledge and skills in the field of paediatric oncology, and very little long term and engaged funding. In response to this issue, a 5 year plan with financial commitment to build capacity in the practice and research of paediatric oncology in Vietnam has been initiated. The program will establish a foundation for paediatric oncology in HCMC, located at Children’s Hospital under the University Medical Hospital system, beginning with outstanding paediatricians receiving fellowships at the University of British Columbia and courses held at the University of Medicine and Pharmacology. The first of these paediatricians has been identified and the first step towards sustainable development of paediatric oncology in Vietnam has begun.
