Friday February 24 at 4 pm (coffee "half-hour" begins a 3:30) We've heard from the education, health and tourism sectors. This Friday we hear from business. Juan Pablo Gonzalez, director and Jose Loinaz, VP of the Chamber of Commerce in Puerto Plata, will be with us to discuss what is needed for a  vital and growing region.  New investment? commerce? industry? tourism initiatives? transport developments?: find out what is coming, what is needed and what is possible!

The Chamber of Commerce is a local agency that promotes industry and commerce, lobbying for better infrastructure, training tourist guides and service personnel. Over the last months it has been systematically analyzing the needs and potential of our region and on Friday we will have the opportunity to get some first-hand information.  What can and is begin done  to encourage a dynamic economy in Puerto Plata that will lead to better infrastructure, a better real estate market, and better transportation (both by air and by car) -- all of which will impact local residents, seasonal residents, and visitors. The chamber has commissioned several economic studies including ones analyzing the impact of tourism arising from Amber Cove and its cruise ships.
This is our chance to pose, and get answers to, our questions.  The Chamber's president Sexto Peralto recently stated that the challenge is to change the city of Puerto Plata from "an island within an island" to being the vital core of several dynamic growth centers in our region. The recently announced $68 million plan to widen the highway to Navarette will contribute significantly, but that in itself will not guarantee increased prosperity.  Our two presenters will brief us on  what is happening - and what might or might not happen - in our region, and what will be the resultant effects.
