Free and low-cost leisure activities in Switzerland

Hello,

We invite you to share some information regarding leisure activities that are free or low-cost in Switzerland. This information will give future expats (or even current expats) an idea regarding some of leisure activities that they might not be aware of.

Is there a way to find out about free or low-cost fun activities in Switzerland, such as a specific app, or a newsletter, or magazine, tourism board, etc.? How do you find out where events are organised?

What are the most common free leisure activities in Switzerland?
Which free activities do you recommend for children, for teenagers, for adults, and for seniors?

Are there certain days where access to paid activities are offered at a lower price or even for free, such as museum entry, or exhibitions, or a theme park, etc.?

How do you maximise your leisure activities in the most cost-effective manner?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Priscilla

I'm from Lausanne and my inputs are for Lausanne only.

No app for me, however there are always posters on the streets about what is coming in the city and if it's free or you need to get tickets for the events.

The city provides free magazine for weekend activities.

Doing sport/gym in Lausanne can be expensive, but if you have a car you could try sport centers at smaller communes surrounding Lausanne.

Cheers,
LT

Switzerland has a great mountain scenery and there is an immense walking and hiking network that is perfectly signposted. Walking and hiking is - of course - free.

If you live in Switzerland and is able body person it is obvious what to do : Skiing every day you can. You live within driving/train-ride distance of the most spectacular mountain ranges ans ski slopes in the world. People pay thousands and fly across the oceans for 10+ hours just to spend a week at one of these places. If you are not a skier, then leave Switzerland immediately, you are taking someone else's spot.
