a.How much will  be approx tax % on initial 6 months?

b.How much will be approx tax % after 6 month?

c.How much can I get back the initially deducted tax amount after 6 month?

d.What would be the approx expense if i stay alone in penang for avereage expense guy?

e.What would be approx expense if i bring my family over there ?

f.How much we can save ?

g.what about education for kids.I heared cost is high..

It will be great if some one give idea/suggestion for my queries and most welcome if u share contact(email or Skype) to check directly..

Thanks in advance...

nanjagan

Is the job on Penang Island or mainland? The following suggestions are based on Island costs living around Bayan Lapas.

a.How much will  be approx tax % on initial 6 months?
Non-resident tax is 28%

b.How much will be approx tax % after 6 month?
The new tax rates for 2018 are in this booklet - https://www.pwc.com/my/en/publications/ … oklet.html Basically you work it out on your annual salary amount, after tax relief allowances, using the % for each band of salary working upwards. Divide by 12 to get monthly rate

c.How much can I get back the initially deducted tax amount after 6 month?
The difference between resident and non-resident rates refundable once qualified as tax resident

d.What would be the approx expense if i stay alone in penang for avereage expense guy?
RM4000 per month if renting an apartment, less is sharing

e.What would be approx expense if i bring my family over there ?
Probably RM1500 more (almost impossible for spouses to find work) not including education

g.what about education for kids.I heared cost is high..
There is only one international school (GEMS) on the mainland. More on the island at various price ranges. Tuition fees rise with age so a child at Fairview Penang Island in Grade 3 would cost RM20k per year plus other fees. Think only the UK curriculum is available as well as IB

I strongly believe it is worth it as calculated below. Good luck.

                     Annually
Salary - MYR     138,000
tax/epf/ins     (12,000)
rental             (12,000)
f&b                     (13,992)
transport        (9,000)
contigencies       (3,000)

Saving In MYR 88,008
Saving in INR    1.6 Lakhs

What about Education at International school Ruzaidi?

And Rental at only RM1000 per month?

Internet/phone/Indian TV channels/Utilities?

On the bright side - do check with employer if they are going to enrol you in the EPF and match your 11% deduction?  Most employers don't do this for foreigners. But it may be possible to enrol yourself and contribute voluntarily at get about 6% return per annum - but check the latest rules.

House rental you need not to go for expensive since budget of RM1K monthly can give you a condo with pool facility, that would be just nice.

Education is expensive here. Taking about international school it is so expensive all around the globe infact in India itself is expensive if you search for the cost.

I believe you need to let them be in India in order for you to have a huge saving. Perhaps within 10yrs time you may apply the job back in India taking your exposure in Malaysia. But if you intend to bring your family here, you will need to spend lots of your expenses on kid's education.  Perhaps 35% to 40% of your net monthly salary will go to them.

Thank you Gravitas,

1) In penang Island what will be cost for 3 grade  this  Annual fee inclusive of all fees?
2)when can we collect the pf amount back? Is procedure is friendly enough or lots of follow up is needed
3)what is average cost of apartments for family 1 bed/ 2 bed furnished in Bayan lepas?
4)what will be average salary hike % for expats?

Grade 3
Fairview
Age 7    9,500 per semester (2 per school year)
http://www.fairview.edu.my/fv_live/admission/

Straits International
Grade 3  7,450 per semester (3 academic terms)
https://schooladvisor.my/schools/strait … al-school/

Tuition fees are not the only costs involved, there are also school bus, meals, equipment etc. There are also enrolment fees and deposits

Another option may be GEMS on the mainland - http://pearlcity.gems.edu.my/enrollment/fees/

EPF can be returned on leaving the country for good at the end of final EP - Process is relatively simple now.

Property rental will depend on age and size of unit plus whether it is in a convenient location with local amenities. Quality of the neithbourhood and the internal furnishings also dictate the price - https://www.iproperty.com.my/rent/bayan … ential/?l1https://www.mudah.my/Penang/Apartments- … 1&st=u

No salary increases are usually possible - people move job to get better salaries

Thank you so much for your needed information.

Thanks a lot...

Hi Gravitas,

1)Is it possible for the dependants to work? My spouse is having 7 years  IT work experience in People Soft Erp.

2)what will be cost for day care Center for 2 year old kid?

3)What will be cost for Kindergarten schools per month for 3 year?

Thanks,

1. The dependent has to be offered  job and then change their Dependent Pass for an Employment Pass (this is the new rule - immigration before now used to endorse the DP with permission to work).  So your wife needs to fulfil all the requirements  usually required i.e. the employer has to have the legal right to employ a foreigner and at a salary within the salary ranges stipulated for each category. So in theory she could get a job, and IT is a good profesional field to be in - whether there are PeopleSoft jobs in Penang is another matter. You would need to look at sites such as Jobstreet,  Robert Walters, SpringAsia Professional, etc.

2. Here is a link to childcare and education for littlelies - (I have selected "Bayan Baru" but you could look under "Bayan Lapas" and other areas, depending where you intend to live.
http://www.kiddy123.com/listing/guide/n … n-baru-198

Here is another link - http://dmonte.com.my/ourcenter/

3. International schools take children from 3 years upwards. You could look at the following schools which are in the south of the island:
Fairview - Check fees for Penang Campus here - http://www.fairview.edu.my/fv_live/admission/
Straits - http://penang.sisgroup.edu.my/

There is another option and that is to employ an Amah (helper) there are numerous Indian aunties who work in this area. Most live in their own homes.  You are also now able to employ a maid from India http://www.imi.gov.my/index.php/en/fore … r-fdh.html

Thank you for Gravitas, Can you just give a sample split up expenditure in Bayan lepas area for Family of 3(includes 1.6 years old kid)

Why don't you read the whole thread again as this has already been discussed.

I would recommend that any offer in Malaysia should cover extra expenses - this might be of interest - it's  comparison of costs between Penang and Bangalore (I did not look up your city - but can repeat if another city)

https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/c … =Bangalore

Just compared to Chennai - even higher differentials

https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/c … Comparison

Thank you Gravitas for the explanation.  My current city is Chennai.. I couldn't see much difference in my savings with Rm11500, so Im planning to negotiate offer with Rm 13k to 14k.

Hi Gravits,

Also they have mentioned duration is 2 years in Simplified employment Contract (SEC).

Which means VISA will permit only for 2 years ?

What about after 2 years ?

And Is there any issue will arise in terms of VISA or Employment Pass

1. if  I leave company before 2 years for any personal/family reason

2.Switching  to other company (ex 1.5 years) in Malaysia

In regards, What I need to clarify or get more details from company ?

In India am in permanent regular Position.

Thanks in advance

Most Professional EPs are for two years, some are only for one.

1. if  I leave company before 2 years for any personal/family reason

Depends on the wording of the contract if there is any penalty for breaking the terms. Usually it just gives a notice period from both sides. If you leave the EP will need to be shortened by immigration i.e. cancelled and you also do your income tax clearance before departure.

2.Switching  to other company (ex 1.5 years) in Malaysia

You would need a "No Obection Letter/Certificate" from the initial employer to change to another job. This is required before a new application can be made for an employment pass under the new company.  Most companies give the NOL/C without any issue after a reasonable length of employment. The EP amendment in passport and tax clearance are also required.

Check your job offer thoroughly.

Great !!

Thank you so much for your quick reply..

I will check my offer letter and come back to you if  any other Queries...

Thanks a lot.
