Keeping in touch while living in Portugal

Hello everyone,

What are the best ways you've found for keeping in touch with friends and family back home while living in Portugal? How frequently do you stay in touch with loved ones?

Are there local equivalents to common instant messaging and online video calling services that you prefer or are more widely used?

If there is a sizeable time difference, how do you manage this?

Do you make international phone calls from a landline or mobile phone from Portugal? What do you think of the cost?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Priscilla

Family in Arizona and Germany.  Face Time or Skype is the answer.
Time difference can be problematic eg. Arizona 7 hours behind .
Can also use WhatsApp - phone anywhere for free.
In today's Global economy it is not unusual for families to be separated but compensated in the knowledge that children and grandchildren have opportunities beyond former expectations.

we, the family, use whatsapp and the fb messenger to keep in touch daily, and of course
there's texting.
there's always a way to get in touch,  sending pictures or just saying hello on fb messenger and whatsapp.

Hi! my favorite ways to keep in touch with European friends and American ones is either Whatsapp (telephone with or w/o camera), Skype (much better than Whatsapp) or regular phone calls through MEO system (before 9:00am or after 9:00pm it's free)
Of course e-mails are common. Don't use SMS outside Portugal; too expansive.

Portugal is not a backward country, all the ways you used in any other modern country to stay in touch are available in Portugal.

Who said Portugal is a backward country?

Hi there,

I normally use Whatsapp and skype or facebook messenger  to contact everyone. Works great and cheap ofcourse.
