Naturalisation and citizenship in Rwanda

What are the requirements for acquiring citizenship in Rwanda? For example, length of residence, language requirements, employment etc..

What formalities are involved in the process?

What is the policy on dual-citizenship in Rwanda? Do you have to give up your former nationality?

What are the advantages and benefits of acquiring Rwandan citizenship, in your opinion?

What are the requirements for acquiring citizenship in Rwanda? For example, length of residence, language requirements, employment etc..  : 5 years permanent resident doing MEANINGFUL work, there is a naturalization test that includes a Kinyarwanda (local language) basic words and rwanda history test,

What formalities are involved in the process? Formal application with the following:

:Birth certificate;

* Birth certificates of his/her children under 18 years old

* Copy of the passport

* Copy of residence permit

* Certificate of his/her occupation/activities (Sustainable) in the country issued by the District authorities where he/she operates from

* Criminal Record Clearance Certificate

* Payment slip of 5,000Frw (non-refundable) paid to Revenue authority account;
* Two recently taken colored passport size photos with white background

* Detailed CV.

*To have consecutively resided in Rwanda for at least five years

What is the policy on dual-citizenship in Rwanda? Do you have to give up your former nationality? Dual citizenship accepted.

What are the advantages and benefits of acquiring Rwandan citizenship, in your opinion? Advantage: You get to move in East African countries of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and maybe soon South Sudan relatively more easily ie no visa with Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania your national rwanda id card is sufficient as a travel document.
