Environmental protection in the Solomon Islands

Hi,

Environmental protection is a challenging issue for all the countries around the world. Would you say this issue is deemed of significance in the Solomon Islands?

Is the country going green through initiatives like waste management and selective sorting programs, renewable energies, public transport, green awareness campaigns and so forth?

How do you personally commit to improve the environment in your daily life?

We would greatly appreciate if you could tell us more about the various local initiatives for sustainable development in the Solomon Islands.

Many thanks in advance!

Kenjee

Recycling in the Solomon's is something many  would like to see expanded and given more priority than is current .It is difficult to imagine though as many areas seem to disrespect their environment rather than recognise a need to clean it up . Again it will have to wait until a foreign company gives money and resources to do so . until then when the government officials cant bear looking at the mess they can just board a plane and go to a cleaner country and forget about the problem. Why is the  country so reliant on plastic Bags and crap. what happened to custom baskets and woven bags, Or are they only for tourist use ?.Weave a bag or basket it is a start, take all the plastic crap back to the shop that sold it to you, after they have a mountain of useless stuff out side there store perhaps they may want to re-think some of there retailing methods and products. If the store complains just tell them you are recycling and only relocating the crap that they charged you 3-4 times the price it is worth. Everyone needs to take responsibility for there mess ,  Manufactures , transporters, retailers and end consumers.
Remember Turtles and Marine life are not Mobile Aquatic recycling stations.
