Essentials to live in Slovakia

Hi,

As an expat living in Slovakia, what would you advise the ones about to pack to bring along?

What are the items you can easily find in Slovakia? On the other hand, what is less common or quite expensive?

Share with us what you would recommend to bring in one's suitcase or container when moving to Slovakia.

Thank you in advance,

Christine

Well for those of you moving to the capital then there is unlikely to be anything that you can't buy here that you would usually be able to buy in any other capital city.
Some of the more exotic fruit and vegetables are not always available but like anything that there is a demand for there will be a supplier.
Fortunately the location of the capital allows for easy access two other capital cities, namely Budapest and Vienna, so if you can't find it in a shop here or on the internet with a delivery option then go on a cross border shopping spree.

For those of you moving to a town or a village, rather than the capital, are likely to find the availability limited to what is on offer and expected by local taste however commuting on public transport is relatively cheap so it should be possible for you to get what you want.

If you have just moved or are about to move to Slovakia and you would like to know about the availability of something particular then feel free to contact me directly.

Any specific brand drug related items: aspirin, vitamins, neosporin. No CVS drugstores for these items just pharmacies without name brands found abroad. I do find batteries at Billa and Tesco food stores. Actually it's pretty easy to find most items you need in the larger cities. Hope this helps.
