Looking for car junk yard to dump old car

Hi,

I am not advertising anything or anyone - but for all of you who have a car please check the website http://www.autoklub.hu/ remember very easy number 188, you can become a member or call them for 24 assistance, in case you had an accident (which i never wish you to have) and they will send a car for you. They speak managable Enlgish and are responsive.

I havent found the junk yard yet - but they will help me as well.

Do you mean you need a certificate for recycling?

Reason I ask is that if you said instead the car was permanently exported, then perhaps you could deregister it  and give the car away to someone for spares. What kind of car is it?

Thanks for asking. The car is not permanently exported on paper - it is Polish car, registered in Poland, owned by Polish person living in Budapest. Its Peugeot 306, year '97.

And yes i think i need a certificate for recycling. Hungarian expression - what i so far figured out - is "bevételi bizonylat a bontó cégtől (alváz és motorszámmal együtt)" or "forgalomból való kivonás".

I found one in Szeged, so far, but its like 170km away. http://www.autofrancekft.hu/kivonas.htm . I am sure there must be such place in Budapest, just haven't found yet.

The problem is, in Poland, you can only deregister the car if you sell it or when it is "recycled". So i just need a company who would take the wreck and give me a piece of paper saying the car was "recycled" (i think better expression is "cassation")

Interesting. What do they do in Poland if the car is exported? In the UK, there's a tick box on the registration form. You just tick that, send it in and that's the end of it. I was thinking this could be the alternative to getting the recycling paper and opens up other avenues for (legitimate) disposal.

I see lots of cars on the highway being taken to Romania and Bulgaria for spare parts. Usually they are on car transporters. If the car is driveable, you could give it away to someone to take over there. I think in Bulgaria the registration taxes are very low, so it encourages the import of older vehicles.

It might also be possible to give the car away to an independent garage specialising in Peugoet and who could use it for spares. When I took my car to an independent, the guy had a lot of old cars which he used for spare parts. Presumably it's cheaper to import damaged cars for that purpose (e.g. scrap metal vs car parts).

Incidentally, there's a scrapyard on the main road between Gyor and Sopron. I don't know the name or exactly where it is but I drove past it a few times. It must be visible on Google Earth (yes, it is...look here...http://g.co/maps/99vxy)

If the car was drivable i would drive it back to PL and get rid of it there - but unfortunately it is not and to hire a trailer to take it back is like 600 EUR.

If the car is exported - it is sale abroad. I will have to figure out if only based on a Sale Agreement between PL-HU i can deregister the car and not to worry anymore.

Local person I know scrapped his car (HU registration) and was paid a small amount. Presumably this included a recycling certificate.

Asking for recycling certificates causes a lot of problems. I cite Austria as a particular example. There are always abandoned cars on the Austrian motorway parking areas - usually with no number plates or from other countries. People don't want to pay fees to have their cars recycled and leave them to be publicly "recycled" at the motorway parking. Or the cars break down and it's not economic to go back and collect it.

You could advertise it as free on the Romanian, Polish and Bulgarian forums here. I've asked questions in other country forums here and also received replies (some of which were useful). You might get lucky.

I could leave the car anywhere - but it has its numbers (engine number, etc) and dont bother with the car. The problem starts when you have to pay the insurance. As officialy the car is still in use, and i am the owner (becasue i didnt sell it or recycled it) I still have to pay the insurance - if i dont pay i will get penalty. So this recycling is purely for the good night sleep.

Also, i do not practically need to recycle it. I just need a paper. and i give the car away for free.

Any chance you may know where he scrapped his car? Phone number to that company?

Pretty much my situation - in my case it is not worth to fix the car - but i have it here.

We now have the same problem in the UK. There they call it "continuous registration". The only way to avoid it is to declare the car as off the road (no reason is needed), since otherwise they automatically assume that it should be insured and taxed (strangely, the don't care about the annual car test). If it's not been declared off the road, then the registered keeper (the name on the documents - not necessarily the owner) will get an automatic penalty.

I had a car which I declared off the road for several years because it was being restored/having major repairs by a garage. I only had to do the declaration once a year and I could do it online so it was no hassle at all (except trying to remember to renew it once a year).

There might be a system in PL for declaring your car off the road in the same way and therefore being able to sleep well enough even if the car is completely disassembled.

There is and it is fairly easy - If only i had the car in Poland - i give to junk yard, they give me paper - it doesnt cost me anything to scrap it, and with that paper i deregister the car.

If i dont find anything in Hungary next week, looks like i will need a trailer back to PL
