A long-distance run as part of the Run the #WaveofChange initiative will soon take place to tackle the ever-growing problem of plastic pollution.

The initiative, launched by running partners Trudy Kerr and Deborah Gatt, seeks to encourage people to collect waste which would otherwise have polluted the sea. The 126km coastal running route, which is the equivalent of three back-to-back marathons, will leave Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq at 6pm on 13 April, and finish around 4pm on 14 April, followed by a party at Atlam Sub Aqua Dive Club.

Since the route incorporates eight clean-ups already organised across the island, runners, running groups, corporations and members of the public are all welcome to be involved in the event, whether as runners for any of the seven run stages, or as part of the clean-up teams.

Run the #WaveOf Change will take place on 13-14 April and has no participation fee. Participants are asked to collect at least three pieces of rubbish, take a picture and post on social media using the hashtag #WaveOfChange. Runners must apply in advance due to limited places. More information and application details may be found via the initiative’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/runthewaveofchange
